White House is a Jesuit retreat center located in a suburb south of St. Louis, Missouri. White House retreat was founded in 1922 on 80 acres of land along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. It can accommodate 85 retreatants. The chapel building includes a simulated grotto of the cave at Manresa, Spain, where Saint Ignatius of Loyola received inspiration for writing the Spiritual Exercises. Facilities also include shrines of the Sacred Heart, the Holy Family, Our Lady, and St. Joseph, as well as the Stations of the Cross on a path along the bluffs. Open to people of all faiths, the center offers men’s and women’s retreats, two-day mixed retreats, and recovery retreats year-round, along with the original offering, three-day silent/preached retreats. During a retreat at White House, members of the Jesuit staff are available for private conferences and celebration of the sacraments of reconciliation and anointing of the sick. Mass is celebrated each day and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament is offered nightly.
